High Achievement On Standardized Tests
As a Catholic School, Nativity shares in the success of students in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Archdiocese who excel in standardized testing with results that include:
• 96% average or above in math problem solving
• 94% average or above in science
• 93% average or above in reading comprehension
Grades 3 through 8 take the Measure of Academic Progress, or MAP test. When taking a MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. In an optimal test, a student answers approximately half the items correctly and half incorrectly. The final score is an estimate of the student’s achievement level.
Every fall and spring our 3rd – 7th grade students take the NWEA Measures of Achievement (MAP) test. All of our classes performed above average on all Spring 2017 assessments and met all MCA III standards when scores are compared. Below are the details:

PALS: All Ages, All Together
Incorporated into Nativity of Mary’s curriculum are activities that have children of various ages working, playing and praying side by side. Every student is assigned to a PALS group, led by a teacher and comprised of a few children from each grade to attend Mass together. We also pair up first-graders with sixth-grade Guardian Angels to collaborate on projects – and have fun, too! Through such connections, older children learn responsibility and the power of their example; and younger students get to know “big kids” who become friends and role models.
Nativity of Mary fosters a nurturing environment that engages students in all elements of learning. By following the Minnesota State Standards, a culture of learning is established under the guidance of dedicated teaching staff through a rich educational experience in all key studies at our school: religion, language arts, literature, science, history, geography, mathematics, science, music and the arts.
