Nativity Student Recognition & Award Programs
Honoring student success and celebrating their achievements is central to the mission of Nativity of Mary Catholic School. Students at Nativity are celebrated in multiple ways through various programs.
School & Classroom Recognition
To honor our high achieving students, an annual Holistic Awards’ Breakfast is scheduled each year. A school tradition since 1994, the Holistic Awards are given to students in sixth through eighth grade who are well rounded students that excel in their academic studies, volunteer, and participate in extra-curricular studies. By honoring achievement both inside and outside the classroom, these awards reflect our philosophy of educating the whole child – in body, mind and spirit.
To receive a Holistic Award, students must have at least an A- average in all of the following graded subject areas: math, science, social studies, language arts, religion, English, music, Spanish, physical education, and conduct. Their extracurricular activities can range from sports to Scouting to music lessons. Their volunteer time is reflected in their religion grade.
To determine who qualifies for the award, we assign each grade a certain value as shown below:
A+ 12 B+ 9 C+ 6 D+ 3
A 11 B 8 C 5 D 2
A- 10 B- 7 C- 4 D- 1
This year, the Holistic Awards Breakfast will be in May 18 at 7:45 AM. In determining eligibility for the awards, students’ grades from the 1st and 2nd trimester will be added together with the 3rd mid-trimester report. To help you track your child’s grades and support them in achieving this goal, review grades through Cornerstone. You will need your family’s password. If you have misplaced your family’s password, please contact the school office. To determine who qualifies for the award, we assign each grade the following value:
There will be a total of 28 grades given to the students between the above grading periods. To earn an award, your child will need at least 280 points (28 x 10 which is the A- value). Please feel free to contact one of the middle school teachers if you have any questions about the Holistic program as this is a new event to me.
